When the Citation X (“ten”) was being developed, Cessna’s goal was to outdo all other comparable business jets. It so often happens, however, that expectations do not meet reality. That is, of course, until the Cessna Citation X hit the skies. Screaming along at a cruising speed of .92 Mach, Cessna succeeded in creating not only the fastest private jet, but also, the fastest aircraft in civil aviation. Owing to its engineering success, the Citation X was awarded the Collier Trophy during its year of debut, which honors aircraft “for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency and safety of air or space vehicles.”
In aviation, there is a balance where speed and performance are often exchanged for comfort, much like a sports car compared to a luxury sedan. In the case of the Citation X, though, nothing could be further from the truth. The Citation X’s luxurious passenger cabin proudly presents an interior that is 23’10” long, 5’6” wide, and 5’8” tall, to total 527 cubic feet of space. The standard cabin layout features 8 executive seats, and, when we say “executive” we mean large, plush chairs that fully recline. Toward the front of the cabin is a fully equipped galley and the aft lavatory is large enough to slip into something more comfortable for the flight. Many Citation Xs include entertainment options such as CD/DVD player, flat screen monitors, and satellite radio.
